495,826. Valves. ARMSTRONG, J. E. May 18, 1937, No. 13756. [Class 135] A glandless rotary plug valve comprises a cylindrical plug member d seating in a split bush c having a conical outer surface engaging a corresponding surface in the valve body a. The actuating spindle h is separate from the plug d but engages therewith by a key and slot connection d2, h2. A spring f is arranged between a shoulder h<1> on the spindle and the seating bush c to maintain a conical sealing surface h<3> on the spindle against a corresponding surface on the casing and to compensate for wear of the bush c or plug d by maintaining a pressure on the top of the bush. The spaces at the top and bottom of the plug are filled with lubricant supplied through a passage h<4> in the stem having a non-return valve v.
