560,793. Valves. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Oct. 15, 1942, No. 14465. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1941. [Class 135] A lift valve closure of the kind having a valve member slidable within a bore, has the seat and valve member with co - operating surfaces of different included angles, the seat and valve member being formed of material having different wear characteristics so as to induce wear of one with respect to the other to conform to the shape of the other, to produce an annular sealing area on the wearable element. The seat is preferably formed of metal such as duralumin and the valve member of a fabric base phenolic condensation product. The organic plastic product should be free from appreciable cold flow and the valve elements should have a relative hardness ratio of substantially 30 to 100 Brinnell hardness. In the form shown in the Figure, the valve member is formed by machining a prismatic block 22 to form a tapered nose 26 at one end and a reduced 'part 30 at the other end to provide a spring seat. When applied to a relief valve, the valve member is tapered to substantially 60 degrees which is stated to improve the operational characteristic of the valve. Specification 556,845 is referred to.
