Abstract

476,855. Chimney &c. cowls. BIRD, K. H. May 31, 1937, No. 15104. [Class 25] In a cowl or ventilator comprising a conical member 3 having on its upper surface vanes 11 adapted to direct air upwards into a tubular member mounted above, the members are axially spaced so as to leave a gap 9, thereby increasing the area of the inner ends of the air passages between the vanes. As shown, a second vaned conical member 4 is mounted above the member 3 and is surmounted in spaced relation by the top member 7. The upper parts of the vanes are tangential to cylindrical flanges 5 and 6 formed at the tops of the members 3 and 4 and may be cut away as at 12 to provide a direct transverse air passage across the top of the conical member.
