[Class 69 (ii)] In a hydraulic coupling, the turbine f can be axially withdrawn so as to stop the transmission, and in this position, a ring p carried by the inner edges of the turbine vanes n completely shrouds the vanes so as to prevent them being acted upon by the liquid ; in this position, the ring p completes the outer wall of the circuit. The turbine is splined at h on a sleeve k keyed to the driven shaft l, the sleeve k having a block r shaped at s to complete the circuit. The core ring q is cut away to accommodate the ring p ; the vaned passages decrease in size outwardly. Alternatively, the blades of the impeller may be withdrawn axially.
