Abstract

469,354. Bicycle frames. TENNANT. W. J. (Battery Patents (Corporation) Nov 4 1936, No. 30049. [Class 136 (iii)] . In a bicycle frame comprising a head, a frame member or fork carrying the rear wheel axle, and a continuous tubular member extending rearwardly from the head and connected at its rear end to the axle-carrying frame member or rear fork, the continuous tubular member is pivoted to such frame member or fork, and the latter is so mounted in the frame as to be resilient in the plane of the frame. A pair of curved and rearwardlydiverging tubes 24 extend from the head 10 to the rear fork end 14, to which they are pivoted at 28, the tubes 24 passing through, and being clamped by bolts in, eyes in split laterally-projecting arms 32<1> on a casting 11 forming a saddle support. The tubes 24 are also clamped in a cross-brace 29 formed of upper and lower parts united by screws, and the rear ends are shaped to form resilient loops 26. A single curved tube 23 connects the lower parts of the head casting 10 and the casting 11. The inner end of the wheelsupporting fork 19 is connected to the crank bracket casting 12 by a laminated spring 13, the ends of which are bolted between lugs 16, 18. Shocks on the rear wheel are thus absorbed by the spring 13 and the resilient loops 26, the pivots 28 permitting the necessary movements.
