Abstract

462,033. Hinges. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., and SWALLOW, W. Aug. 30, 1935, Nos. 24265/35 and 11044 /36. [Class 65 (ii)] A hinge for doors comprises two main leaves of a length substantially equal to the length of the door and secured respectively to the door and post, and two leaves or series of links pivoted to both main leaves to form a closed polygonal linkage system. In the form shown, the main leaves 11, 12 are provided with series of lugs to which are hinged two series of links 21, 22 extending over substantially the length of the door, at least one of the hinges having a continuous pin 16 ; the links 21 are so formed that they bear on the lugs of plate 12 in the closed position to prevent sagging of the door. The plates 11, 12 may be fixed by screws passing through enlarged holes in the door and post and engaging plates inside the door and post, permitting adjustment both vertically and horizontally ; alternatively, the plates may be dispensed with, the hinge lugs being formed integrally with the door and post. In a modification, the series of links 21, 22 are replaced by continuous sheet metal leaves having lugs interengaging with those on the door and post.
