Abstract

460,912. Screw propellers. JUNKERSMOTORENBAU GES. Aug. 7, 1935, No. 22311. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1934. [Class 114] A variable-pitch screw propeller is provided with an automatic pitch adjustment which has an over-riding hand control and this latter is combined with the control of the throttle of the engine driving the propeller. Each screw propeller blade 4 is coupled to a sleeve 15 under the control of a centrifugal governor 13 and spring 14. The over-riding hand control comprises a lever 33 which through linkages adjusts the position of the spring abutment collar 16 on the governor spindle. This linkage includes a floating arm 30 to which also a control rod 34 is linked which sets the throttle 36 of the engine. In a modification the governor operates a valve 45 in an oil pressure circuit controls the move ments of a piston 42 which is linked to the blades 4. In order that excessive movements may not be imposed on the parts the passages 56, 57 from the control valve are broadened at their connection with the cylinder 41 so that when the piston is forced to one end of its stroke it provides a through passage and further motion is not imposed on the rod 40.
