Variable pitch airscrews wnerein slight movement of the boss on its shaft is accompanied by y pitch h cnange are e constructed with a two part boss axially movable relatively to each other and to the shaft under the action of torque and thrust. An outer boss section 5 mounted freely on the shaft 1 carries the blades 8 and is slidable on splines 6 on a second part 2 which has a driving pin 3 engaging a cam groove 4 in the shaft 1. Each blade 8 has at its root a lever 10 which abuts against a ring 14 between which and a thrust race ring 15 is interposed a spring 13. The levers 10 are held against the ring 14 by the pressure on the blades acting at the Centre of Pressure 11 which is displaced from the blade axis 9. End movement of the boss is limited by the stop 7.
