Abstract
451,299. Free wheel clutches. WOODCOCK, W. C., 11, Dartmouth Avenue, North Walsall, Staffordshire. April 16, 1935, No. 11680. [Class 80 (ii)] In a cycle or like clutch comprising oppositely-acting spring-pressed pawls 7<a> and 7b carried in the sprocket wheel 4 and co-operating with a toothed ring 5 secured to the wheel hub 6, a member 10 movable axially by a lever 11 controlled by Bowden mechanism 12 from the handle-bars carries pins 9 extending through holes in the wheel 4. With the member 10 in its right-hand position, both sets of pawls are operative, and bidirectional drive is established. By moving the member 10 to the left, the pins 9 coact with the inclined underfaces 7c of the pawls 7b to lift the latter so as to render them inoperative, and unidirectional drive ensues. The pawls are pivotally mounted in rounded recesses in projections 4a extending inwardly from the wheel 4.
