382,750. Cycle driving-mechanism. CLARKSON, R. and CLARKSON, J., 208, Windmillhill Street, Motherwell, Lanarkshire. Oct. 29, 1931, No. 29960. [Class 136 (ii).] In a combined free and fixed wheel driving- mechanism for pedal cycles, the driving sprocketwheel A is provided with an internal spur-wheel A<1> adapted to be engaged by a tooth D<1> on a rocking disc D mounted, under the control of a spring S, between flanges on a driven member B secured to the wheel hub, forward drive being transmitted by the engagement of a snug D<2> with the member B ; the disc D is adapted to be locked in this position, to produce the fixed-wheel drive, by the engagement of a pawl L with the under side of a projection D<3> on the rocking disc D. The pawl L is actuated through a spring F from toggle links G, N, which are so acted upon by a spring Z as to spring into flexed positions on either side of the straight-line position, the link G being fixed to a spindle J carrying on the outside of the casing a cam or arm arranged between two projections on a rocking lever adapted to be operated by the rider through a spring and cable control.
