Abstract
449,885. Alternating-current motors. BRITISH SANGAMO CO., Ltd., and BUTHERUS, F. R., Cambridge Arterial Road, Enfield, Middlesex. Jan. 10, 1935, No. 885. [Class 35] [See also Group XXXVII] A synchronous motor has an element to render it self-starting and the rotating field is rendered effective or ineffective by an operation which, if repeated after synchronism has been attained is unable to affect the synchronous running of the motor. In the form shown, the stator plate (i has two sets of teeth for cooperation with a permanent magnet rotor 10 and', in addition, polepieces 5 which, with polepieces on members 3, 4, co-operate with an induction rotor 9. The members 3, 4 are separated by a shading coil 8, the circuit of which is opened when it is desired that the motor shall not be self-starting. The shading effect may, alternatively, be annulled by angularly moving magnetic members to bridge the polepieces on members 3, 4. The shading coil, in another modification, comprises a slotted disc, the slot of which may be bridged by a peg. The shading coil circuit may be closed by switch contacts 15, 22 when the rod 13 is at the bottom of the slot in the plate 17. If the switch 'is to be maintained closed the rod 13 is raised to the position shown so that the pressure of spring 19 on collar 18 on the rod is ineffective. Specification 384,880 is referred to.
