Abstract

448,726. Road-surface cleansing and dressing machines. STONE, A., The Chestnuts, Pudsey Road, Hough End, Bramley, near Leeds. March 8, 1935, No. 7229. [Class 107] [See also Group I] A road-surface cleansing and dressing machine consists of a wheeled frame 1, Fig. 2, carrying a sand-spreading device (not shown), and vertically adjustable snow plough and squeegee devices 13, 14, the latter devices being detachable so that they can be interchanged with a sweeping unit, as shown in Fig. 4. The sand-spreading device comprises a hopper 4, Fig. 4, having an outlet 5 controlled by a sliding door 6. The sand falls on a laterally oscillating spreader 7 driven by a motor 11 through the medium of links and a bell-crank lever 10. The connections between the links and lever can be adjusted to vary the throw of the spreader. The snow plough 13 and squeegee 14 are inclined at an angle of 45‹ to the path of the machine and are connected for independent adjustment to the frame 1 by pin-and-slot devices 15, 16, and locking nuts 17, 18. The road wheels 3 are driven by the engine 11 through chain- and-sprocket gear. The sweeping unit, Fig. 4, is bolted to the frame and consists of a rotary brush 19, driven by the engine 11, and a refuse collector 20. The hopper 4 may be used to receive the road sweepings from the collector.
