Abstract

589,947. Road sweeping machines. LEWIN ROAD SWEEPERS, Ltd., and WALKER, H. April 6, 1945, No. 8497. [Class 107] A self-propelled road sweeping and refuse collecting machine, in which a transversely disposed brush 23 delivers sweepings into a separate elevator 29 which conveys them to a collecting receptacle 33, has a power unit 19 disposed between the elevator and the driver's position which is arranged to one side at the rear in order to give a clear view of a gutter-sweeping brush 35. Power is transmitted from the engine through a gear box 42 to the elevator, road wheels 11 and brushes, each drive being provided with means for separately disconnecting it from the engine. The elevator may be of adjustable inclination and is driven at its upper end by a chain 57, which also drives the side brush. A water tank 21 is carried for supplying a sprinkler 22, and steering is done by wheel 13. Specification 589,948 is referred to.
