[Class 102 (ii)] [See also Group VI] An apparatus for introducing solid gasevolving substances into closed vessels, particularly for introducing definite quantities of solid carbon dioxide into spraying vessels, comprises a sleeve member a secured in the neck of the vessel d and carrying a gate c which is biassed by a spring f to close the lower end of the sleeve. A cup b is arranged to screw into the sleeve a. In use, the desired quantity of solid is placed in the cup, and the latter is screwed into the sleeve, so sealing the vessel d. When the cup is fully screwed down, it engages and opens the gate c, allowing the solid to fall into the vessel d. The sleeve and/or the gate are perforated, so that any residual gas pressure in the vessel d is vented when the cup b is removed to receive a further charge of solid. In a modification, the gate c is opened by a separate member slidable without rotation in the sleeve. In another modification, it is formed as a cone valve, and in another, is opened positively by screw action when the cup b is screwed home. In another modification, it is attached to a cup member slidable in the sleeve.
