Abstract
806,485. Emptying tanks. BEKEN, H. F. Jan. 11, 1957 [Feb. 10, 1956], No. 4203/56. Class 21. [Also in Group XXIX] A valve adapted to be used for controlling the outlet aperture from a mixing tank or pan is arranged to present a smooth surface flush with the inner wall of the tank and with the wall of an outlet pipe to prevent the formation of pockets in which the mixed material can collect. As shown, the valve closure member 5, carried by a stem 7 with a two start thread, is mounted in a bore 6 which is oblique to the bottom surface of the tank 3 and has its inner end cut obliquely so as to be flush with the surface of the tank when closed. An outlet pipe 14 is also arranged obliquely and the valve member 5 is arranged so that in moving from closed to open position it is turned through an odd number of half turns so that when open its oblique inner surface lies flush with the bore of the pipe 14. The threaded stem 7 coacts with a bridge 8 which is secured to the valve body by wing nuts (not shown). The valve member 5 may have sealing rings 13 and its inner surface may be flat or cylindrically concave or of dished shape depending upon the shape of the bottom of the tank.
