428,788. Machines for rolling rubber &c. ELSWORTH, O., c/o Tyneside Foundry & Engineering Co., Skinner Burn Road, Low Elswick, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Nov. 18, 1933, No. 32222. [Class 70] In machinery for rolling rubber &c. one set of corresponding rolls c of the individual machines forming a battery or group are arranged in axial alignment and are coupled together, for example, by flexible or other couplings p to form a single driving shaft from which the other roll or rolls of each machine is or are driven. The rolls are coupled together by suitable gear wheels e, f keyed to their spindles g, h. The number of teeth in the gear wheels of the several machines may be varied, for example, those between the first set of rolls may have an equal munber of teeth, and those of the remaining rolls may have 16 and 24 teeth respectively to exert a rubbing effect on the rubber in addition to pressure. A suitable reduction gear j mounted at one end of the battery of machines is connected by a coupling m to the end of the common shaft and is driven by an electric motor n or otherwise. An arrangement is provided for varying the gap between the rolls of the machines by adjusting the relative positions of the bearings b, bl for the spindles g, h.
