427,993. Packing - rings. SKODA WORKS, PLZEN, 37N, Jungmannova, Prague. Jan. 31, 1934, No. 3265. Convention date, April 21, 1933. [Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] A self-lubricating packing-ring for pistons and stuffing-boxes comprises one or more resilient rings of carbon or graphite (3, Fig. 3 ; 7 and 8, Fig. 2) carried in a recess in a metallic resilient support (9, Fig. 3 ; 10, Fig. 2). The metallic support is at least equal or approximately equal in width to the carbon or graphite rings so as to obtain a uniform distribution of stress therein and the carbon or graphite rings project above the metal support to contact with the corresponding machine part to enable continuous operation without oil lubrication. The composite ring may be split by a single cut to provide resilience.
