520,446. Cylinders for piston engines and compressors. SKODA WORKS, PLZEN. Oct. 21, 1938, No. 30478. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1937. Drawings to Specification. [Class 122 (i)] The inner wall of the cylinder of a piston engine or compressor is provided with a selflubricating sliding surface which is formed integrally with the said inner wall or is applied directly to it in such manner that the material of the sliding surface forms a coherent whole which is rigidly connected to the material of the cylinder. The cylinder may be made from cast iron having a high percentage of carbon or graphite, differential cooling causing a concentration of the carbon at the sliding surface ; a cylinder of steel, iron, or other metal may be cast round a pre-formed liner of carbon ; or the cylinder wall may be mechanically united to the carbon lining as by means of interengaging projections and recesses.
