421,254. Variable - speed gearing; friction clutches. SEMERY, J. M. C., 112<bis>, Rue Cardinet, Paris. March 13, 1933, No. 7586. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 18, 1933]. [Class 80 (ii)] In variable - speed epi cyclic gearing, one sun wheel 5 rotates with the driven shaft 6, the planet carrier 2 rotates with the driving shaft 1 and the other sun wheel 7 is loose on the shaft 1 and carries a splined disc 9 adapted to be clutched between a flywheel 10 secured to the shaft 1 and a ring 12 guided on rods 19 in the flywheel. Weak spring! 14 are interposed betweer the ring 12 and a similar ring 13, which latter is urged towards the disc 9 by strong springs 11 abutting against the flywheel cover 18, which is also connected to the carrier 2, whereby clutch engagement is effected in two stages. Disengagement is effected by levers 16.
