Abstract

419,475. Torque - rods. WHITTLE, R. W., Fern Acre, Crofts Bank Road, Urmston, Lancashire, TWEMLOW, E., Stramongate, and FODENS, Ltd., Elworth Works, both in Sandbach, Cheshire. Sept. 4, 1933, No. 24434. [Class 79 (iv).] In six-wheeled vehicles having bogies with two axles and longitudinal springs, carried by a central fitment, bearing upon the axle boxes in recesses thereon, the recesses are wider than the ends of the spring and the bearing surfaces are rounded to allow relative movement laterally and radially. Centre blocks 9 are rotatably mounted on a shaft 10 carried by brackets from the chassis frame 12 and have mounted thereon the springs 4 the ends of which slide in raised loops 5 on the axle boxes 3. The loops 5 have curved upper and lower surfaces and side clearance as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 to permit relative angular movement. The axle boxes 3 are also provided with integral arms 18, 20 between which and the centre blocks 9 torque rods 15, 22 are connected one or both ends of which are in screw threaded connection with sleeves whereby angular movement is permitted.
