Abstract
420,166. Spring suspensions. GODMAN, T., Cainscross House, Cainscross, Stroud, Gloucestershire. May 27, 1933, No. 15382. [Class 108 (ii)] In a vehicle suspension independentlysprung wheels are mounted on axles 8 individually and angularly displaceable about axes situated inwardly of the sides of the vehicle and laminated or helical suspension springs 5 are provided with a housing 10 angularly displaceable with respect to and engaging with a member 9 which slidably engages the axle. As shown, the part-spherical housing 10 is in two parts held together and to the spring by saddle bolts 11. The bevelled edges 14 of the housing serve to limit angular displacement of the axle. Flexible lubricantretaining aprons 15 are provided.. Vertical displacement of the wheel is guided by torque rods 16, 17 ball-jointed to the vehicle frame at one end and to a stationary hub plate 27 at the other. Each ball joint includes blocks 18, 19, Fig. 3, a packing-piece 23 and a block 22 keyed to the end of the rod and provided with a screwed stub 24 adapted to receive a locking- nut 25 for a screwed cap 21.
