Abstract

502,030. Vehicle spring-suspensions. MORRIS MOTORS, Ltd., and ISSIGONIS, A. A. Sept. 9, 1937, No. 24585. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A mounting for independently-sprung steering-wheels comprises a wheel-axle member a secured to the wheel axle, a steering post b passing through the member a, a pair of coupling pieces c in screw-thread engagement with opposite ends of the post, and a pair of parallel motion or like links d connected to the coupling pieces and to the chassis. The screw-threads serve both as pivotal connections and to hold the coupling pieces c on the post b. In the construction shown, the pieces c are connected to the suspension links d by screw-threaded pins g carried by the links d and engaging screwed sockets in the pieces c. Plain pivots g may be provided. Lubrication is effected by means of a nipple k leading into a bore h connected to grooves i, j in the screw-threaded pivots. The ends of the post b are closed by caps m, and dust is excluded by rubber or like sleeves m and washers q. The suspension links d may be single or double. For heavy vehicles they are of the wishbone type as shown, the two arms of the upper link being welded together and those of the lower link being connected by a plate o.
