[Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump, of the type in which the plunger a is formed with an axial passage g communicating by radial passages m with recesses h, which co-operate with suction and relief passages d<1>, #, the bore of the axial passage g is at least half the diameter of the plunger, in order to permit expansion of the end of the plunger by the pressure of the fuel, and thus secure tightness of the plunger in the barrel. The plunger is rotatable and the recesses h are formed with helical edges in order to vary the timing of relief. The fuel is supplied under pressure to the suction passage d<1>, and a byepass e is provided between the passage d<1> and the passage f.
