Abstract

416,676. Fuel - injection pumps. FARMER, J. B., 57, Alexandra Road, and BANKS, K. C. T., 32, Culliford Road, both in Dorchester. March 20, 1933, No. 8372. [Class 102 (i).] A fuel injection system for an internalcombustion engine includes a casing 1 housing a pump for forcing the fuel under pressure, preferably two reciprocating pumps 22 delivering fuel to a strainer 37 and a chamber 12containing a valve loaded by an adjustable spring 16. The valve comprises a cylindrical head 14 grooved at 14<a> and provided with slots 14b which are gradually reduced in depth towards the groove 14<a>. A groove 19 is provided in the casing and the valve does not permit flow of fuel through port 13 until sufficient pressure is attained. If the pressure is too great the valve uncovers a byepass port 20. The port 13 connects to a rotary distributer 5 provided with a series of ports 5a each leading to an engine cylinder through ports 2a, 2<b>, 7a, 1<a> and pipe 1<b>. The ports 7a are formed in a disc 7 rotatably mounted to reduce the cross section of the passage between ports 2b and 7<a> to control the amount of fuel delivered.
