413,783. Pliers. BODE, E., 61, Wood Street, Leek, Staffordshire, and SMITH, J. H., Providence House, Waterhouses, Stoke-on- Trent. Feb. 16, 1933, No. 4805. [Class 61 (ii).] A holding-tool has relatively movable jaws which are in the form of electromagnets adapted to operate magnetically for holding purposes. The jaws 1 which may be straight or curved have inclined gripping faces 10 to suit the angle of valve half-collets 4, Fig. 3, and ledges 13 support the latter at the same level. One or both of the jaws is provided with a coil 3 so that it may be electrically magnetized to hold the collets, or the jaws may be permanent magnets for this purpose. A rod 14 with a V-end 15, Fig. 4, slides in a hole in the pivot 2 and also in a bearing block 17 pivotally connected with toggle levers 18, 19 hinged to the handle members, this rod serves to position the pliers centrally when the V is brought into contact with a valve stem, the rod, normally extending beyond the jaws, being pressed outwardly by a compression spring 24.
