Abstract
366,865. Shears. SAYNOR, W., The Croft, Broadwav Bank, Totley Rise, Sheffield. July 13, 1931, No. 20020. [Class 30.] In garden shears, secateurs, &c. wherein the non-cutting member carries a strip of soft metal or fibre to prevent damage to the branches cut, the jaw e of the non- cutting member b is U-shaped and holds a round or octagonal rod f of copper or fibre, which is clamped by one or more screws g and can be rotated, after slackening the screws, to present a fresh face to the cutting blade m by means of a screwdriver slot i in its end. The jaws present curved gripping surfaces to the rod. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the detachable cutting blade m is pivoted to its handle a by a pin p engaging a slot in the blade, the handle and blade being both pivoted to the non-cutting member b. In a simpler form, also shown, the cutting blade is integral with its handle and has a slot engaging a pivot pin on the non-cutting member arranged eccentrically to the line of the cutting edge, the slot limiting the relative movement. An inclined link is pivoted to both handles, which are pressed apart by a blade spring and held together by a pivoted catch.
