Abstract

413,393. Hinges. GIBBS, Ltd., J., and GIBBS, J., 25, Grange Road, King's Heath, Birmingham. Feb. 2, 1933, No. 3174. [Class 65 (ii).] In a casement or like hinge of the kind comprising a link pivoted to the casement, at a point distant from the edge thereof, and to the fixed frame, releasable means being provided normally to prevent relative movement between the link and the casement, this means comprises a rib or projection on one of the latter members adapted to engage releasably between spaced projections or sides on the other. In the form shown, the window frame 11 is provided near the top and bottom with hinge plates 12 having knuckles 15 in which is mounted a rod or tube 18 forming a common hinge pin to carry links 16 respectively above and below the knuckles 15. Each link is of channel section, open on the side towards the window and having a strengthening rib 29, and the outer end of the link is pivoted at 20 to a lug formed on a plate 21 fixed to the window 10 ; stops 27, 28 are provided to limit motion at the respective pivots. The plate 21 has a rib 23 which normally enters between the flanges of the channel link 16, being held in this position by projections 25 on the rib 23 entering slots 24 in the flanges of the link 16 ; these flanges are, however, sufficiently flexible to allow the projections 25 to pass between them under pressure, to release the window from the link.
