409,181. Jet propulsion of ships. RANK, F., 1, An der Fleischbr³cke, Nuremberg, BECKER, A., 20, Michelsberg, and AMMON, T., 18, Michelsberg, Hersbruck, both in Germany. Aug. 9, 1933, No. 22266. Addition to 389,167. [Class 114.] The jet propulsion system of ships according to the parent Specification is modified by distributing the sets in symmetrically disposed pairs and with openings disposed at different levels so that the outlet openings extend over separate zones of the sides and bottom and all together cover the surface of the hull. At the bows pumps 3, 4 have suction pipes 1, 2 which cross one another, the pumps being driven each by two superposed electric motors 7, 8 and 9, 10. The outlet openings a<1>, a<11> extend substantially over the side walls of the ship. Between these two sides and immediately in the bows is a pump b carrying suction pipe s and outlets c<1>, c<11> extending over the flat pump. This pump is driven by electric motors e, f. In the stern of the ship are two pumps 17, 18 having crossing inlet pipes 15, 16 and outlet slots d<1>, d<11> in the side walls. At the middle of the ship there are four pumps i<1>, i<11>, k<1>, k<11>, driven by electric motors l<1>, l<11>, and m<1>, m<11> and the suction pipes in this case do not cross whilst the outlet openings n<1>, n<11> extend over the side walls and the openings r<1>, r<11> over the bottom. In some cases further intermediate groups may be symmetrically disposed along the ship.
