Abstract
1316426 Water-jet propulsion D J DOUST 9 June 1970 [9 June 1969] 29070/69 Headings B7S and B7V A marine craft water-jet propulsion system has two or more intake ducts 12 which merge into a non-circular common duct 13 and two or more impellers 20 each with its own independent shafting are mounted in the common duct to induce a flow of water through the ducts to propel the craft. In the embodiment shown the diffuser section F of the common duct gradually changes its cross-section from that of the impeller section E to a rectangular crosssection and the outlet end opens into a rudder section 14 having rectangular cross-section and which houses a plurality of rudders 30 and grids 31 spaced across the end. Noise and vibration may be reduced by fixing damping material 36 to the exterior surface of duct walls 33 (Fig. 25).
