Abstract
432,451. Jet-apparatus for manoeuvring ships. OULITZKY, M. P., 280, Boulevard Raspail, Paris. March 26, 1934, No. 9368. [Class 114] A ship's hull is provided with groups of apertures at the hull and stern on the port and starboard sides, each aperture having a diameter less than the distance between frames and being provided with an active propelling apparatus such as an injector, whilst the pipes connecting the groups are under valve control for obtaining a steering or manceuvring effect. The apertures 9 each have an ejector 7 supplied from a chest 6 under control of the valve 5 in the pipe line 3 from the boiler. A common water chest 8 surrounds the ejectors and communicates by a suction pipe 10 with a single inlet 11 on the other side of the hull. A reversely arranged group 15 is provided which is controlled by the same valve 5. The valve may be operated by a motor 17 through contacts from the bridge. In an alternative construction, the separate supply pipes 10 .. 13 are dispensed with and the groups are coupled by a single pipe so that water is drawn in past the inactive apertures and delivered through those on the opposite side in which the ejectors are active. Instead of ejectors, electrically driven centrifugal pumps may be used.
