Abstract

401,882. Automatic firearms. CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST V. BRNE, and STALLER, K., 7, U. Lazaretu, Brunn, Czecho Slovakia. Nov. 2, 1932, No. 30929. [Classes 92 (ii) and 119.] The gas-pressure motor of an automatic gun is combined with means, coacting with the cylinder wall but not forming part of the motor, for maintaining the combustion sediment in a loose state, and is further provided with means which enable the loosened sediment to be removed automatically by the combustion gases. In one form, the motor comprises a piston 13 and cylinder 14, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, the latter being provided with a number of tapered circumferential cavities 20. The cylinder is mounted, by means of a bayonet joint, within a ring 15 of a bracket 30 which is connected to the gun support 17. The bayonet joint comprises three lugs 46.. 48 on the cylinder engaging with three lugs 40 .. 42 on the ring 15, the sizes of the lugs being different and such that rotation of the ring through 180‹, from the normal position shown, is necessary to effect the disconnection of the parts. The forward end of the cylinder is closed by an extension 8 of a sleeve 2 which is detachably secured to the barrel 1 by a bolt 3 and houses a regulating stopper 10 ; the barrel is detachably secured to the gun. In operation, the cylinder moves relatively to the ring 15 during the aiming movements of the gun, and by vibration during firing, and the edges 28 of the cavities 20 loosen any sediment accumulating on the walls of the ring. The loosened sediment is discharged by the gases through cavities 50 in the cylinder walls. A shield 53 is provided behind these cavities to protect the operator from the escaping gases and combustion sediment. In a modification, the bayonetjoint connection between the members 14, 15 is dispensed with and these parts are thereby capable of relative longitudinal and rotational movement. In a further modification, the ring 15, Fig. 7, is disposed within the cylinder 14, and the cavities 20 are provided in the ring. Instead of the relative movements between the members 14, 15 being produced automatically, it may be produced in a completely positive manner.
