Abstract

400,394. Hydraulic turbines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London, and SEEWER, P. W., Bilton Place, Rugby. Aug. 29, 1932, No. 24077. [Class 110 (iii).] In a hydraulic power plant in which the supply in the main tunnel 2 is supplemented from an intermittent source such as a stream 1, the supply from this source to the tunnel is permitted only while the entrance to the downshaft 3 is submerged. The flow is controlled by a valve 4b, the position of which is determined by a float 6. The top of the float spindle may serve as an indicator. The valve preferably discharges into a resiliently-supported tube 11 arranged within the downshaft 3. An air vent 5 is provided. The valve may be arranged at the bottom of the shaft.
