Abstract
439,299. Hydraulic rams. FOUNTAINE, C. A., Narford Hall, King's Lynn. June 15, 1934, Nos. 17717 and 19217. [Class 102 (ii)] In order to prevent erosion or pitting in the drive or supply pipe of a hydraulic ram, one or more small vents or air valves are provided adjacent to the position where erosion takes place. They may be formed direct in the pipe, in small ducts or tubes connected to the pipe, or in air chambers integral with or fixed to the pipe. The air chamber may be fixed to the pipe by U-bolts C, Fig. 1. or by screwing into a T-piece al, Fig. 2. A vent e or air valve is provided between the top and bottom of the chamber or in a tube D. Where no chamber is provided, a small quantity of air will be maintained in the pipe from the ram to the air vent or valve, or if the pipe be steep, from the vent or valve to the mouth of the pipe.
