488,089. Centrifugal pumps. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Jan. 28, 1938, No. 2800. Convention date, March 25, 1937. [Class 110 (i)] In priming-apparatus for centrifugal pumps, the water-ring pump 11 is below the centrifugal pump 1 and its sealing-liquid is in a closed circuit including a reservoir 19 surrounding pump 11 and a cooler 16 above the reservoir. Sealing-liquid is delivered from pump 11 to the reservoir by pipe 22 and from the reservoir to pump suction 13 by pipe 21, a common valve 23 opening these pipes alternately. In position I the impeller 14 is active and in position II it rotates in an air-filled chamber. The discharge from pump 11 passes through pipe 17 to the cooler 16, which is surrounded by working- liquid, and back by gravity through pipe 20 to the reservoir. The air separator 3 has a separating-wall 25 and collecting chamber 26 connected to pipe 13 by a float-operated valve 12 which above a certain height of float connects pipe 13 to atmosphere at 28. The suction pipe of pump 1 has two branches 4, 24, either one connected to the separator and the other closed by the cooler.
