Abstract
490,615. Propulsion by screw propellers. TACCHI, P. G. March 19, 1937, No. 8126. [Class 114] A screw propeller 6 is mounted at the fore part of a boat 4 and its shaft 1 is coupled to an air screw 5 mounted on a strut 3 at the after end of the boat. The blades of the air screw 5 may be adjustable and the screw may be mounted so that it can be turned to get the best effect from the wind, and may be adjustable vertically. The water screw 6 may be so mounted as to be raised and lowered and communication with the air screw may be by means of a drive which provides for a variable velocity ratio. The installation may comprise more than one of such sets, and the water screw may be driven by more than one air screw. Additionally the boat'may have a water screw at the after end driven by steam or other power plant. For transport, the blades of both screws may be jointed to the base for folding.
