Abstract

396,834. Vaporizers. HEADEN, L. A., 60, Strand, London. Feb. 23, 1932, No. 5375. [Class 7 (iii).] An induction manifold, heated by a surrounding exhaust jacket 4, has helically arranged staggered baffles 14, which whirl the mixture during its passage from a carburetter 8 to ports 6 leading to the cylinders. The baffles are preferably tapered and set at an angle of 15‹ to the direction of flow of the mixture. Exhaust gases are led from the jacket through a conduit 15 to the air inlet 16 of the carburetter, and are controlled by a valve which may be operated simultaneously with or independently of the throttle valve 17. Baffles may be used to silence the exhaust gases in the conduit 15, or a silencer may be interposed in the conduit. The fuel oil may be preheated by exhaust gases before entering the carburetter.
