Abstract
392,026. Tennis and like courts. SPURRIER, J. M., Marston Hall, Hilton, near Derby. Aug. 2, 1932, No. 21598. [Class 20 (iv).] A hard court for games comprises a porous bed upon which is laid a main layer, or subsurface, of gypsum. The purest forms of gypsum such as plaster of Paris may be employed, or inferior or adulterated forms such as gob gypsum or foulstone gypsum may be used, the latter containing some 10 per cent of marl. As an example, a bed of clinker from four to eight inches thick is covered with a layer of crushed gypsum. This layer is # inch thick and the material is crushed or ground to pass through a screen of # inch mesh. A dusting of fine gypsum or gravelly binding material, and finally a top dressing of colouring material composed of silica or quartzite base, are then applied.
