805,723. Paving. SOC. ACHRO. Nov. 22, 1956, No. 35798/56. Class 20(4). To reduce skidding and wear, homogenous artificial corundum crystals of about one centimetre size are embedded generally non-contiguously in concrete road surfaces with about a quarter or third of each crystal projecting. The crystals may be embedded by ramming into moist concrete over which dry cement has been smoothed, or may be moistened, shaken in dry cement and embedded in moist cement. In either case the cement may contain metallic oxide pigment to produce coloured roads, road sections such as crossing edges or track strips, or surface road signs.
