389,066. Coking process. BAMAGMEGUIN AKT.-GES., 10, Reuchlinstrasse, Berlin. June 2, 1931, No. 16075. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 55 (i).] Fuel briquettes are made from non-caking fuel such as anthracite, lean coal, gas coal, brown coal, or peat, by briquetting the fuel with pitch, and coking the briquettes by charging them, together with a loose fuel which fills up the spaces between the briquettes, into a vertical retort through which the charge moves continuously. The process may be applied to the distillation of oil shale. The briquettes and the filling, which may be coke breeze, are fed from a hopper 13 into low and high temperature distillation zones 3 and 4 successively, and then through cooling zones 5 to the discharging device 15. The distillates escape through outlets 10 into condensing spaces 14, from which tar is run off. Cooling gas or water is supplied through pipes 27 or 20 respectively, the water passing through holes 26 into the coked charge, and the steam or gas up through spaces 21 and around partitions 23 entering the hot fuel through slots 22 and serving to convey heat to the fresh charge. Heat regenerators 7 are provided below the heating flues 6.
