Abstract
241,991. Rushen, P. C., (Koppers Co.). July 30, 1924. Coke ovens.-In coking carbonaceous material with the production of water gas steam is diffused into and caused to penetrate the coked sides of the. charge. Horizontal coking chambers or retorts 12 are disposed between heating flues 17 supplied with rich gas from channels 29 or lean gas preheated in regenerators 18. The flues 17 operate concurrently as upflow or downflow flues and are connected by passages 26. The regenerators are divided by a central vertical partition 109. Expansion joints 44 are provided on opposite sides of the steam flow area. Specification 171,117 is referred to.
