Abstract

375,048. Fuel pumps. AMALGAMATED CARBURETTERS, Ltd. and BROWN, C., Holford Works, Holford Drive, Perry Barr, Birmingham. May 29, 1931, Nos. 15740 and 21288. [Class 102 (i).] In a pump for supplying a carburetter, leakage past the piston 22 collects in an annular recess 28 and is returned by a passage ,27 to the suction chamber 6. In order to ensure return of leakage to the chamber 6, sub-atmospheric pressure is maintained in the chamber by means of a spring or weight loaded valve 29, interposed between the chamber and the supply pipe 35. The suction stroke of the piston is effected by a spring 20 and the discharge stroke by a spring 26, the piston being connected to the cam-operated rod 17 by a hook 24 allowing lost motion: Discharge from the pump in excess of demand escapes to a byepass 34. past a loaded valve 30. The fuel passes through a filter 7 carried by a ring 8 screwed into the suction pipe.
