Abstract
810,979. Diaphragm pumps: compressors. CHRYSLER CORPORATION. June 28, 1955 [July 2, 1954 (2)]. No. 18628/55. Classes 8(1) and 102(1). [Also in Groups XI and XXVI] A combined fuel and air pumping unit for supplying fuel and air to a burner of a gas turbine is actuated by a lever 50 contacting a cam 48 driven from the gas turbine compressor shaft. The diaphragm 124 of the air pump is moved on its delivery stroke by a spring 145 and the lever 50 cooperates with a stem 130 attached to the diaphragm 124. The diaphragm 74 of the fuel pump is moved on its delivery stroke by a spring 80 and the stem 82, attached to the diaphragm, has a collar 164 for actuation by the lever 50. The delivery passage 224 of the fuel pump communicates with a diaphragm 106 loaded by a spring 112 to reduce pulsations m the delivery. The air pump inlet 60 is connected to the delivery side of the gas turbine compressor and this pressure is conducted through passages 200 and 178 to assist the springs 80, 145 in the delivery strokes of the fuel and air pumps. The delivery chamber 188 of the air pump communicates through passage 204 with the back of the diaphragm 106 so that the delivery pressure assists the spring 112. In a modification, the passage 200 is omitted and the delivery chamber 188 communicates with the back of the fuel pump diaphragm 74 so that the delivery pressure of the air assists the spring 80 on the delivery stroke of the pump.
