Abstract
350,918. Detachable wheels. BAKER, F. W., The High House, Oldswinford, Stourbridge, Worcestershire. Dec. 17, 1929, Nos. 38691/29, 3891/30, 7633/30, 8099/30, 13260/30, and 26015/30. [Class 144 (i).] A detachable wire-spoked wheel comprises an inner set of spokes 2 carried by an inner hub-member 5 adapted for attachment adjacent the brake-drum 12, and an outer set of spokes 1 carried by a hubmember 4 which is secured over the end of the permanent hub 8 by a threaded collar 9. The hub-members 4, 5 are spaced by a sleeve 16, Fig. 1, through which the looped ends of the spokes are passed ; or, as shown in Fig. 5, by a sleeve 21 adapted to abut the outer hub-member 4. The parts 4, 5 may also be spaced by wood &c. members 6 fitted with rubber washers 7. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the hub-cap 19 is secured by bayonetfastenings 20. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the cap 22 is secured by a central set-screw 23. In both these forms, the drive is transmitted through a plate 10 having alternating bosses 11, 15 engaging apertures in the hub-member 5, the bosses 11 being fitted with resilient cushions 14 surrounding the attachment-bolts 13. Fig. 7 shows a twin-wheel device in which the inner wheel 27 is clamped to the brake-drum by means of a ring 38 and bolts 37, the outer wheel being secured to the ring 38 by bolts 39 and further secured on the sleeve 25 by the threaded cap 40. Specification 311,876, [Class 144 (i), Wheels for vehicles], is referred to.
