Abstract
347,534. Oil engines. SULZER FR’RES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. June 24, 1930, No. 19225. Convention date, July 3, 1929. [Class 7 (iii).] The piston-rod of a doubleacting engine is protected from contact with the hot gases during the early stages of combustion by so forming the combustion chamber 8 that a flat annular portion of the piston adjacent to the rod closely approaches the end of the chamber, leaving only a small space 9 surrounding the rod. The fuel nozzles are located adjacent to the pistonrod the jets being directed away from the rod as shown. Mechanically-actuated valves may replace the injection nozzles.
