Abstract

335,348. Ewart, W. E. Aug. 28, 1929. Two-stroke-cycle engines.-In a double-acting engine wherein one combustion chamber is formed within a fixed cylinder 1 and a second 19 within a movable hollow piston 3 in which works a second piston 4, the hollow piston is enlarged at its lower end to form a pump plunger 12. This is used either to abstract the gases from the combustion chambers through a receiver 11, Fig. 6, or to supply scavenging air under pressure to the two chambers through a common air inlet 7. After scavenging combustible mixture is supplied by an independent blower through injection nozzles; the supply to the nozzles may be controlled by cam-actuated valves.
