Abstract
344,121. Cutting glass. NEWMAN, H. A., 56, Springfield Road, Tottenham, London. Jan. 1, 1930, No. 83. [Class 56.] A device for cutting sheet glass is provided with both diamond and wheel cutters, and means are provided for resetting the diamond and for replacing a wheel when worn. It is so constructed that a continuous cut may be made without requiring the handle to be held at a definite angle. The device comprises a handle 2 having at its upper end a metal ball 1 for striking the glass after making a cut, and at its lower end a pin 4 on which a block 5 is so mounted that it is free to turn through a small angle. A shoe 16 is pivoted to the block 5 by means of a tenon 8, and a spring 7, secured to the block, holds the shoe in contact with the block when the wheel cutter is in use. A number of cutting wheels are secured to a turret 10 which is housed in a recess in the shoe and is locked in place by a screw 11. The diamond 19 is held in a carrier 14 rotatably mounted in a turret 20 in a recess in the shoe and is locked in place by a screw 15. A grub screw secures the diamond carrier in its turret and allows the facets of the diamond to be reset.
