Abstract

339,820. Schoenfeld, M. Jan. 14, 1929, [Convention date]. Winding - machines. - Artificial silk &c. is wound on bars 4, Figs. 1 and 2, extending through longitudinal openings 10 in the barrel 9 of a bobbin, and at the completion of winding, the bars are moved radially inwards allowing the bobbin to be slid axially off a sleeve on the spindle, and leaving space for yarn contraction during subsequent liquid treatment. The openings 10 and the relaxed state of the windings allow free access of the liquid. Lugs 5 in a hollow cylinder 3 mounted on a disc 2 on the winding spindle 1 form guideways for the bars 4, which in their inner position, Fig. 2, allow axial movement of the bobbin 8, 9, and which are forced, against the pressure of a spring 6, outwards through the openings 10, by a mandrel 7. In a modification, instead of openings 10 in the barrel 9, there are longitudinal recesses for the bars 4 which project into an annular compartment, two guide-pins on each bar 4 projecting radially from the compartment and having the spring 6 between them, the mandrel 7 extending through the barrel of the bobbin into the space enclosed by the compartment and acting on the guide-pins.
