Winch-actuated platform and lever load-handling machines.-A loading-platform c particularly for handling motor vehicles is suspended from a frame a pivoted on the ship's deck and raised, as by a rope h, to bring the platform from the .quay to deck level, or the bracket a mav be mounted on the quay, or it may be used on board for transferring cargo from an upper deck to a lower deck or to the hold. The platform is suspended by links d from yokes b pivoted in the frame a and connected to links e parallel with the frame, so that the yoke b moves parallel with itself and the platform remains horizontal. The links d may include adjusting screws d<1>. The rope h may be led to one of the ship's winches and the movement of the frame a may be limited by stops on the rope or by chains secured to the frame. The frame may be moved by gearing instead of by a winch. In the raised position the platform rests upon bearers f which are moved outwards for the purpose by a hand-lever g. The bearers f mav be hinged, and they may be mounted on the platform, or both on the platform and on the deck.
