Manure &c. distributers. - In a machine for distributing manure &c. the passage of material from a box extending across the machine is controlled by a stationary grid 8 having a moving grid 6 above it and another 7 below it, the three grids being mounted in contact or adjacent to one another, and the apertures or openings in the upper and lower moving grids being out of register. The openings in the stationary grid 8 may be disposed obliquely. The two moving grids 6, 7 are divided longitudinally, and corresponding parts of both are riveted to one of two angle-bars 12, 13 so as to move together in pairs. The grids are supported by rollers 16 carried by blocks 17 removably suspended by pivoted screws or bolts 18 and nuts 21. The angle-bars 12, 13 are reciprocated by connecting rods 40, pivoted links 37, and cranks or eccentrics 33 driven by bevel and ratchet gearing from one of the wheels 2. The strokes may be varied by adjusting the end pins of the connecting-rods 40 in the slotted links 37, and cranks or eccentrics 33 driven by bevel 33 may be set at any angle with one another, but preferably at 180‹, so that the angle-bars 12. 13 reciprocate in opposite directions. A rotary agitator may extend across the lower part of the. manure box 1; or bars or other agitators, extending wholly or partly across the box, may be attached to the upper surface of the grid members 6. Such bars may be connected to the angle-piece 12 or 13 on the opposite side of the box so as to move in a direction opposite to that of the grid member immediately beneath them. One or both of the grids may reciprocate transversely of the box 1, or may have a rotary motion, or a combined reciprocating and rotary motion. For distributing in furrows or definite lines, plates may be fastened to one or other of the grids to prevent the passage of the material except through spaces between them.
