[Class 6 (i)] In a manure or like distributer comprising a box having discharge regulating mechanism consisting of three or more superposed grids, the middle one of which, or the top and bottom one of which is or are reciprocated, two independent sets of driving gearing are provided for driving the regulating mechanism, or the regulating mechanism and agitating mechanism, one set receiving motion from each supporting wheel. When the middle grid 1 is fixed in position the top and bottom moving grids may each be divided longitudinally and transversely the parts of the top grid being connected to the corresponding parts of the bottom grid to form our units. Each set of driving mechanism comprises a ratchet wheel, bevel gearing 8, 11, a shaft 12, a clutch 16, two cranks 23, 25, and two connecting-rods 24, 26, adjustable linkage being provided for regulating the length of stroke. Each grid unit is driven by a separate crank, the two cranks on each shaft 12 being out of alignment so that the two grid units driven from each shaft never reach an end of stroke position simultaneously. The grid units may be spaced apart at their inner ends, or may overlap. Some of the moving grids may be cranked where they overlap so that they may slide in contact with the middle grid for the greater part of their areas. One or both of the shafts 12 may be provided with an eccentric 32 actuating a slotted lever engaging a reciprocating agitator rod 36. This rod may be in two parts, or there may be two rods. In a modification, the grids are divided longitudinally but not transversely and there is one crank only on each shaft 12. In another modification, one shaft 12 drives the moving grids while the other drives the agitator rod or rods. In another arrangement, the middle grid is driven and is divided, the ends of the parts overlapping and the upper and lower grids being cranked. In this construction, the upper grid is fixed to the bottom of the box or hopper 14 and the lower grid is carried by cross-bars supported by nuts or screwed supports, the parts of the moving grid being attached to angle members supported on rollers. In all constructions, the openings in the top and bottom grids are out of register. Specification 327,965, [Class 6 (i)], is referred to.
